While intended to represent horror and fright, it commonly conveys such feelings as shock, awe, disbelief, and intense excitement, as a screaming fan.

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/face-screaming-in-fear/">previously featured</a> a <a href="/ghost/">ghost</a> flying from its mouth. <a href="/weary-cat/">🙀&nbsp;Weary Cat Face</a> bears a similar expression.

A wedge of yellow-orange cheese with holes, like a Swiss, but used for the food in general. May be used for various cheese-related slang expressions (e.g., &ldquo;cheesy,&rdquo; &ldquo;say cheese,&rdquo; &ldquo;big cheese&rdquo;).

Also frequently associated with the Green Bay Packers, an <a href="/american-football">American football</a> team, due to their fans being called &quot;cheeseheads&quot;.&nbsp;

Cheese Wedge

A cut of uncooked red meat, as a T-bone or rib-eye steak, with the light, white marbling of fat.

May be used for sexual slang.

Cut of Meat

An&nbsp;<a href="/egg/">egg&nbsp;</a>with yolk frying in a skillet, as prepared sunny-side up. Though associated with breakfast, the emoji represents the general action of cooking and related concepts.

An <a href="/apple/ios-4.0/cooking/">early Apple design</a> included broken eggshells and did not feature a skillet, while an <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-2.0/cooking/">early Samsung design</a> simply displayed a fried egg.

A flat, shallow, black pan with side handles, containing saffron-colored&nbsp;<a href="/cooked-rice/">rice</a>, vegetables, a leg of&nbsp;<a href="/poultry-leg/">poultry</a>, and/or&nbsp;<a href="/fried-shrimp/">shrimp&nbsp;</a>and&nbsp;<a href="/cooking/">lemon&nbsp;</a>slices. Commonly associated with&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paella">paella</a>, a traditional dish from&nbsp;<a href="/flag-spain/" title="🇪🇸 Flag for Spain">Spain</a>. May be used for eating,&nbsp;<a href="/cooking/">cooking</a>, dining, and meals more generally.

Apple&#39;s version of this emoji is considered to be <a href="https://blog.emojipedia.org/apple-fixes-paella-emoji/">representative</a> of the traditional ingredients&nbsp;from Valencia. Samsung <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/shallow-pan-of-food/">previously displayed</a> this emoji as a Korean hot pot.

Shallow Pan of Food

A pot, as a casserole dish, filled with a warm and hearty&nbsp;<a href="/cut-of-meat/">beef&nbsp;</a>or vegetable stew on most platforms. A bowl with a silver&nbsp;<a href="/spoon/">spoon&nbsp;</a>inside, as used to eat cereal or soup. Bowl color varies across platforms, as do contents, though most are empty.

WhatsApp&#39;s bowl contains&nbsp;<a href="/tomato/">tomato</a>&nbsp;soup, while Google&#39;s <a href="/google/android-8.0/bowl-with-spoon/">previously</a> contained&nbsp;<a href="/cooking/">breakfast</a>&nbsp;cereal.

Bowl with Spoon

A silver&nbsp;<a href="/fork-and-knife/" title="🍴 Fork And Knife">fork and knife&nbsp;</a>on either side of a white plate, as set for dinner or another meal. Often used more generally for eating and dining. May be paired with&nbsp;<a href="/spoon/">Spoon</a>.

This emoji tends to spike in popularity on <a href="/thanksgiving">Thanksgiving</a>.&nbsp;

Spoon

May be used to talk about jars or anything that comes in jars, from pickles to condiments to jellies to sauces.

On <a href="/tiktok">TikTok</a>, people often pair the jar emoji with prompts like &quot;fill this jar,&quot; asking commenters to add certain emojis in response (for example, hearts for &quot;fill this jar with hearts&quot;). This is an engagement tactic to help boost a post&rsquo;s reach, most commonly appearing on videos promoting charitable causes or fundraisers.

On major platforms, depicted as a green or orange toy gun with an orange tip and barrel pointed left.&nbsp;Google&nbsp;and Facebook&rsquo;s designs include mounted reservoirs.

Originally depicted as a classic handgun, as a revolver or other pistol. In 2016, <a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/apple-and-the-gun-emoji/">Apple switched its design</a> from weapon&nbsp;to toy; other major vendors followed suit by 2018. Deprecated emoji sets or smaller platforms still display the emoji as a handgun.&nbsp;

In July 2024, X / Twitter updated this emoji&#39;s design to once again show a real firearm. In August 2024 the firearm&#39;s design was changed, and also made available for iOS platforms.

Microsoft <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/pistol/">initially displayed</a> the emoji as a toy ray gun before switching to a revolver, then squirt gun. Google <a href="/google/android-4.4/pistol/">once featured</a> a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blunderbuss">blunderbuss</a>.

Pistol

A pair of scissors, as used to cut paper or <a href="/person-getting-haircut/">hair</a>. Generally shown open, blades down, with red handles. Commonly used for content concerning haircuts, fashion design, arts and crafts, and various senses of cutting.

A pointed knife with a steel blade, as used for thrusting in close combat. Generally depicted as double-edged with a black, brown or gold&nbsp;cross-shaped hilt and positioned at 45&deg; angle, often with its tip at the lower left.

May represent knives and other bladed weapons (cf. <a href="/crossed-swords/">⚔️&nbsp;Crossed Swords</a>) as well as various senses of cutting and stabbing. Often applied to medieval or fantasy content.

Google&rsquo;s design&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-9.0/dagger/">previously</a> featured&nbsp;an icy-blue blade and <a href="/sparkles/">sparkles</a>, suggests a dagger <a href="/elf/">elves</a> may wield in fantasy.

Dagger Knife

Two swords with steel blades in an X shape, as crossed for combat between two knights or warriors. Generally depicted as straight, double-edged blades with brown or black, cross-shaped hilts, points directed up.&nbsp;Commonly used as a symbol for battle, fighting, or a contest, as in sports.

Sometimes shown with golden handles. Several vendors implement the same design as for their <a href="/dagger/">🗡️&nbsp;Dagger</a>.&nbsp;Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/crossed-swords/">previously featured</a> stylized, white swords on a green square, as a sign or icon of war.

May be paired with (or defended by) <a href="/shield/">🛡️&nbsp;Shield</a>. Not to be confused with <a href="/hammer-and-pick/">⚒️&nbsp;Hammer and Pick</a> or <a href="/hammer-and-wrench/">🛠️&nbsp;Hammer and Wrench</a>.

Crossed Swords

A cartoon-styled bomb, depicted as a black ball with a burning fuse.

Commonly used for various figurative bombs or explosions, e.g., slang bomb, a &ldquo;home run&rdquo; in <a href="/baseball/">baseball</a> or <a href="/softball/">softball</a>;&nbsp;&quot;excellent&quot; or &quot;attractive.&quot; Sometimes applied&nbsp;in contexts of war, weapons, or violence.

Commonly used to represent various content concerning battle, defense, security, and protection.

Apple and Microsoft&rsquo;s designs feature a red and white sawtooth pattern, Facebook and WhatsApp&rsquo;s blue and white checkers.
