Joystick

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pager">pager</a>, as worn on the waist to alert a person to a phone call&nbsp;or short text message. Popular in the 1980&ndash;90s before <a href="/mobile-phone/">mobile phones</a>, though still used by some medical and emergency personnel. Very occasionally used to represent alerts, digital communication, or nostalgia for old technology.

Pager

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fax">fax</a> machine, as scans and transmits documents over a telephone line. Common in the 1980&ndash;90s before the internet. Depicted as a white or black machine with a <a href="/telephone-receiver/">telephone handset</a>, keypad, display screen, and paper in its tray.

Sometimes used in emoji&nbsp;form as&nbsp;an alternative to the words&nbsp;facts, due to the similarity of pronounciation. In a sentence:&nbsp;&quot;all 📠 no 🖨&quot;

Fax Machine

A laptop personal computer. Depicted as a black or gray device, opened to show a dark or blue screen, keyboard, and touchpad.

Commonly used for various content concerning computer technology, work, and activity.

Previous designs resembled a <a href="/desktop-computer/">desktop computer</a>&nbsp;(e.g., <a href="/apple/ios-9.0/laptop/">iMac</a>) on many platforms, hence its Unicode name of&nbsp;Personal Computer. Apple&rsquo;s design now resembles a MacBook.

Personal Computer

A desktop personal computer. Generally depicted as a black or gray monitor with a dark or blue screen.

Like <a href="/laptop/">💻 Laptop Computer</a>, used for various content concerning computer technology, work, and activity. May also be used to represent <a href="/laptop/">television</a>, as it resembles a flatscreen TV.

Google and WhatsApp include <a href="/keyboard/">keyboards</a>. Apple&rsquo;s design resembles an iMac. <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-anniversary-update/desktop-computer/">Microsoft</a> and <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/desktop-computer/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> designs previously featured PC towers.

Desktop Computer

A trackball, as rotated to control a cursor on a computer. An alternative or supplement to a <a href="/computer-mouse/">computer mouse</a> or touchpad. Generally depicted as a cordless device with a blue or red ball in a cylindrical, black or gray socket.

Occasionally used for various content concerning <a href="/video-game/">gaming</a>. Facebook&rsquo;s design featurs a rectangular base, while Google&rsquo;s design <a href="/google/android-11.0/trackball/">previously</a> featured&nbsp;a cord.

Trackball

A classic camera, shown with its flash going off, as to illuminate a darker scene. Vendors implement the same design as <a href="/camera/">📷 Camera</a> with a burst of light, often&nbsp;resembling <a href="/collision/">💥 Collision</a>.

Commonly used for various content concerning photography as well as an icon for a picture, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Camera with Flash

A video camera, as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camcorder">camcorder</a> used to film home videos in the 1980&ndash;90s. Generally depicted as a gray or black video camera with viewfinder, control buttons, and lens pointed&nbsp;left.

Commonly used for various content concerning film and video as well as an icon for a video, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Samsung&rsquo;s is fitted with a <a href="/microphone/">microphone</a>. Google&rsquo;s design was <a href="/google/android-8.0/video-camera/">once&nbsp;blue</a> and also&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-7.0/video-camera/">previously featured</a> a flip screen.

Video Camera

A light-brown or yellow rectangular tag, as labelled and attached to a <a href="/key/">key</a>. Depicted&nbsp;at various angles&nbsp;punched with a hole, generally with a metal ring or loop of string.

Commonly used to represent a price tag or metadata tag as well as for various senses of label.

WhatsApp&#39;s is white.&nbsp;Apple removed&nbsp;its ring from <a href="/apple/ios-10.2/label/">earlier&nbsp;designs</a>. Samsung <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/label/">previously featured</a> the easter egg initials HMJ,&nbsp;while&nbsp;Google&#39;s design <a href="/google/android-8.0/label/">previously</a>&nbsp;featured&nbsp;two tags.

Label

An eject symbol, displayed as an upward-pointing triangle above a horiztonal bar. May be used as a physical button or an icon in a user interface. Represents the action of&nbsp;ejecting physical media such as a <a href="/floppy-disk/" title="💾 Floppy Disk">floppy disk</a>, <a href="/videocassette/" title="📼 Videocassette">videocasette</a> or <a href="/dvd/" title="📀 DVD">DVD</a>&nbsp;on a <a href="/laptop/" title="💻 Personal Computer">computer</a>&nbsp;or media player.

Eject Symbol

A square shown in the shade of black. May be used to represent anything black.

When players of the word game <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordle">Wordle</a>&nbsp;share their results on social platforms the results are represented through a series of <a href="/large-green-square">green</a>, <a href="/large-yellow-square">yellow</a>, and black or&nbsp;<a href="/white-large-square">white</a>&nbsp;square emojis. This emoji can indicate that the player guessed an incorrect letter, i.e. a letter that is not present within the word.
