Whale

A dolphin, a sleek marine mammal known to be social and intelligent. Tropical Fish

Called <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fugu">fugu</a> in Japan, where it&rsquo;s consumed as a delicacy.

Blowfish

A shark, a large, stealthy fish with many teeth. Twitter&rsquo;s octopus is purple. Apple&rsquo;s has a friendly, cartoon-styled appearance. <a href="/google/android-7.0/octopus/">Google</a> and <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/octopus/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> octopuses previously looked surprised, while <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/octopus/">Microsoft&#39;s</a>&nbsp;suggested an <a href="/alien-monster/">👾 Alien Monster</a>.

Octopus

A seashell, as found at the <a href="/beach-with-umbrella/">beach</a>. Generally depicted as an empty, spiraling, white seashell, as grown by a sea <a href="/snail/">snail</a> or home to a hermit crab. Positioned at various angles across platforms.

Often used for various content concerning beaches, ocean and ocean life, and summer fun.

Apple&rsquo;s design <a href="/apple/ios-4.0/spiral-shell/">previously</a> resembled a clam shell, <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/spiral-shell/">Microsoft&rsquo;s</a> a snail shell. <a href="/google/android-7.0/spiral-shell/">Google&rsquo;s</a> was previously blue.

Spiral Shell

A spider, an eight-legged <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnid">arachnid</a> that spins a web. Depicted as a common black spider, as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_house_spider">house&nbsp;spider</a>&nbsp;or <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_funnel-web_spider">funnel-web spider</a>, often shown from above with its large abdomen oriented at the bottom.

Spider

A scorpion, an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnid">arachnid</a> with <a href="/lobster/">lobster</a>-like pincers and a stinging tail. Depicted as a light-brown scorpion from above, often facing left, with its pincers and curving stinger raised. Shown with six or, accurately, eight legs in addition to its pincers.

Often used to represent <a href="/scorpio/">♏ Scorpio</a> in the Western zodiac.

WhatsApp&rsquo;s scorpion is reddish in color.

Scorpion

A prawn or shrimp breaded and deep-fried golden-brown. Fried Shrimp

A lobster, a large crustacean with a prominent tail and pincers. Depicted as a reddish-orange lobster (as cooked) from above, with a long body and tail, short, tentacle-like eyes, and ten legs, the top of which are very large pincers.

Often used to represent lobster as food as well as in connection to the US state of Maine.

In its release year of 2018, Emojipedia&rsquo;s original sample image was criticized as anatomically incorrect but was shortly after <a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/skateboard-dna-and-lobster-updated/">resolved</a>. That year, the transgender community <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/trans-activists-lobster-emoji-flag-charlie-craggs-unicode-nail-it-a8474476.html">embraced</a> the lobster as a symbol for their efforts for <a href="/transgender-flag/">Transgender Flag</a>&nbsp;emoji.

Samsung, WhatsApp, and Facebook&rsquo;s lobsters are depicted at an angle.

Lobster

A shrimp (prawn), a small crustacean with a long tail. Generally depicted as a reddish-orange shrimp (as cooked) in full profile facing left, with tiny eyes, many limbs, and its long antennae curling back as its long tail curls in.

May be consumed in the form of <a href="/fried-shrimp/">🍤 Fried Shrimp</a> or <a href="/shallow-pan-of-food/">🥘 Shallow Pan of Food</a>. Often used to represent seafood.

Shrimp

A squid, an octopus-like sea animal with ten arms. Generally depicted as a pinkish-orange <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_squid">giant squid</a>, facing forward or angled to the left, with a slender, arrow-like body, small eyes, and two, long arms raised up at its sides. Platforms generally depict six arms.

Occasionally used to represent squid as a food item. Not to be confused with <a href="/octopus/">🐙 Octopus</a>, though their applications may overlap.

Microsoft, WhatsApp&nbsp;and Twitter&rsquo;s squid designs&nbsp;are facing forward, as was a previous <a href="/google/android-8.0/squid/">Google</a>&nbsp;design. Samsung&rsquo;s squid was <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/squid/">previously</a> gray.

Squid

Half of an opened oyster shell with gray, pink, or orange flesh inside. Many platforms also include a pearl in the shell.

Oyster

The&nbsp;Cancer astrological sign in the Zodiac. This Zodiac Symbol represents a Crab.

Cancer
