Rabbit

Commonly associated with Canada, as beavers are a national emblem of the country. May also be used in reference to the vagina, which is an informal sense of the word beaver.

Twitter&#39;s design has always been a hedgehog facing forward. Google&#39;s design originally featured a hedgehog facing forward, though it was changed to full profile with Android 11.0. Facebook&rsquo;s design <a href="/facebook/2.1/hedgehog/">previously</a> featured a hedgehog&nbsp;on its back, rolled up in a ball.

Hedgehog

A bat, the&nbsp;flying mammal of the night. Variously depicted as a brown, black, or gray bat, with wings outspread and pointy ears, facing forward or left.

Often used in association with <a href="/halloween/">Halloween</a>, <a href="/vampire/">vampires</a>, and Batman.

Google&rsquo;s bat <a href="/google/android-8.0/bat/">was previously</a>&nbsp;purplish in color, bearing two fangs. <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/bat/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> bat was previously brown, and&nbsp;<a href="/facebook/2.0/bat/">Facebook&rsquo;s</a> gray.

Otter

A skunk, a bushy-tailed mammal that sprays a foul odor when threatened. Depicted in full profile on all fours facing left, with black hair and its distinctive white stripe running from its head down to a curled-up tail.

Google&rsquo;s original skunk design bore a humorously&nbsp;haughty air.

Skunk

A badger, a stocky mammal in the weasel family with a&nbsp;long, pointed head. Generally depicted in full profile on all fours facing left, with a gray coat, black-and-white-striped face, and short tail.

Google&rsquo;s design used to feature a friendly, cartoon-styled black-and-white badger face. Facebook&rsquo;s badger is sitting on its hind legs.

A generic bird. Variously depicted as a blue or red bird, as a bluebird or cardinal, shown standing in full profile, or as a bird head.&nbsp;Both designs&nbsp;show the bird facing left.

May be used for a variety of wild and pet birds as well as for metaphorical senses of bird (e.g., <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Par_(score)#Birdie">birdie</a> in <a href="/flag-in-hole/">golf</a>).

Apple and WhatsApp&rsquo;s designs feature a grayish bird head. Google, Samsung, and Facebook&rsquo;s designs suggest a bluebird, Microsoft and Twitter&rsquo;s a cardinal. Google&rsquo;s bird <a href="/google/android-4.4/bird/">previously</a> resembled a canary, <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/bird/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> was previously green, and <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/bird/">Microsoft</a> and <a href="/twitter/twemoji-2.0/bird/">Twitter&rsquo;s</a> birds were once blue.

Bird

The Unicode Consortium approved the following characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode7.0.0/">Unicode 7.0</a>, released on June 16, 2014.&nbsp;Support for these emoji characters rely on updates from platform vendors such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

Initially, 250&nbsp;new characters in Unicode 7.0 were approved for emoji presentation, however this was later reduced to 103 Standard Additions which are listed below. The other characters remain part of Unicode, but are not recommended&nbsp;to be included as emojis.

The exception to this was the <a href="/left-speech-bubble/" title="🗨 Left Speech Bubble">Left Speech Bubble</a>, and as such wasn&#39;t initially specified on other platforms as an emoji. A later-accepted&nbsp;<a href="http://blog.emojipedia.org/diverse-spy-proposal/">proposal</a>&nbsp;updated this.
