A man tasked with flying an aircraft, such as an&nbsp;<a href="/airplane">✈️&nbsp;Airplane</a> or a&nbsp;<a href="/helicopter">🚁&nbsp;Helicopter</a>,&nbsp;shown wearing a traditional&nbsp;airline pilot uniform.

Man Pilot

A woman tasked with flying an aircraft, such as an&nbsp;<a href="/airplane">✈️&nbsp;Airplane</a> or a&nbsp;<a href="/helicopter">🚁&nbsp;Helicopter</a>,&nbsp;shown wearing a traditional&nbsp;airline pilot uniform.

Woman Pilot

A generic bird. Variously depicted as a blue or red bird, as a bluebird or cardinal, shown standing in full profile, or as a bird head.&nbsp;Both designs&nbsp;show the bird facing left.

May be used for a variety of wild and pet birds as well as for metaphorical senses of bird (e.g., <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Par_(score)#Birdie">birdie</a> in <a href="/flag-in-hole/">golf</a>).

Apple and WhatsApp&rsquo;s designs feature a grayish bird head. Google, Samsung, and Facebook&rsquo;s designs suggest a bluebird, Microsoft and Twitter&rsquo;s a cardinal. Google&rsquo;s bird <a href="/google/android-4.4/bird/">previously</a> resembled a canary, <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/bird/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> was previously green, and <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/bird/">Microsoft</a> and <a href="/twitter/twemoji-2.0/bird/">Twitter&rsquo;s</a> birds were once blue.

Bird

A bald eagle, the majestic bird of prey with brown feathers and distinctive white head. Generally depicted facing left, with its wings outspread and talons out, as if swooping down to seize prey.

Commonly associated with the <a href="/flag-united-states/">United States</a>, whose national emblem is the bald eagle. May be used for other eagles and birds of prey (e.g., hawks).

Google&rsquo;s eagle used to have its wings tucked in, as if perched on a branch. Twitter&rsquo;s design shows only the bust of an eagle. Apple&rsquo;s <a href="/newspaper/">📰 Newspaper</a> features its eagle on its masthead.

Eagle

A single feather slanted to one side. On most platforms it&#39;s light brown with a dark brown barred or striped pattern. Can be used to talk about feathers or birds, or to represent something that is lightweight, fluffy, or soft.

Feather

A single white wing with feathers.&nbsp;

Can be used to talk about flying, both literally and metaphorical. May be used in phrases such as when pigs fly&nbsp;or time flies. May also be used to talk about angels or to say that someone or something is angelic.

Wing

A globe, showing the continents of Europe and Africa in green against blue ocean.

May be used to represent various content concerning the European, African, and Atlantic regions. May also be used to represent Earth and international&nbsp;affairs more generally.

Earth Globe Asia-Australia

A rectangular map of the world. Generally depicted as a paper map creased at its folds, Earth&rsquo;s surface shown in green on blue ocean.

Commonly represent maps, travel, exploration, and geography. May also represent various content concerning the world as a whole, e.g., global or international issues.

<a href="/microsoft/windows-10/world-map/">Microsoft</a> and <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/world-map/">Samsung&rsquo;s design</a> previously depicted outlines of the continents.

World Map

Shows a map of the country of Japan, which is the only country to have its own emoji map. Other countries can be found on the <a href="/globe-showing-americas/" title="🌎 Earth Globe Americas">various globe emojis</a>, or the <a href="/world-map/" title="🗺 World Map">world map emoji</a>.

Silhouette of Japan

A magnetic compass, as used for navigation. Generally depicted in a silver or gold case with a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compass_rose">compass rose</a> and a red-tipped needle. Commonly used for various content concerning traveling and exploring as well as metaphorical compasses (e.g., moral compass).

Facebook&rsquo;s markings include the initials of the four cardinal directions,&nbsp;north, south, east, and west. Not to be confused with various <a href="/search/?q=clock">clock</a>&nbsp;or timepiece emojis.

Compass

The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty">Statue of Liberty</a>, often used as a depiction&nbsp;of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City">New York City</a>.

Due to its initial inclusion in <a href="/softbank/2000">an early Japanese emoji set</a>, it is possible that this emoji was originally intended to represent the recreation of the Statue of Liberty located on the Odaiba island in Tokyo Bay.

Statue of Liberty

A light aircraft which is shown with propellers on some platforms.

Small Airplane

A plane taking off from a runway. Generally displayed left-right, with the front of the plane elevated.

Airplane Departure

A plane approaching a&nbsp;runway for landing. Generally displayed left-right, with the front of the plane facing toward the ground in a position that may result in a crash if attempted in the real world.

Airplane Arriving

An open parachute floating through the air with a human steering. Most platforms feature a ram-air design. Colors vary across platforms.

Parachute

A seat, which could refer to any form of place to&nbsp;sit, with the distinction that a seat is generally fixed,&nbsp;and is not a <a href="/chair/">chair</a> which can be moved.

This emoji is&nbsp;intended to be a seat&nbsp;on some form of mass-transit, such as on an <a href="/airplane/" title="✈ Airplane">airplane</a>, <a href="/train/" title="🚆 Train">train</a> or <a href="/bus/" title="🚌 Bus">bus</a>.&nbsp;Google previously&nbsp;displayed this as an <a href="/google/android-4.4/seat/" title="💺 Seat on Google Android 4.4">orange wooden&nbsp;chair</a>.

Seat

A rocket being propelled into <a href="/milky-way/" title="🌌 Milky Way">space</a>. Sometimes used to indicate a fast increase, for instance when referring to stocks going&nbsp;to the moon&nbsp;🚀 (rising quickly in price).

Rocket

A suitcase or bag, as used for traveling. Most platforms depict gray or blue rolling luggage with an extended handle. Commonly used for various content concerning traveling or taking trips, whether for business or leisure.

Apple&rsquo;s design features an old-fashioned, leather, trunk-styled case with graphic <a href="https://www.citylab.com/design/2013/05/lost-art-luggage-labels/5652/">luggage labels</a>/stickers, not to be confused with <a href="/briefcase/">💼&nbsp;Briefcase</a> or <a href="/handbag/">👜&nbsp;Handbag</a>. Google and Facebook also include such stickers.

May be stored in a <a href="/left-luggage/">🛅 Coin Locker</a> or inspected at <a href="/customs/">🛃&nbsp;Customs</a>.

Luggage

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joystick">joystick</a>, as used in playing classic arcade, computer, or video games. Generally depicted with a black base, red-knobbed control stick, and one or more red buttons.

Commonly used for content concerning various types of gaming; occasionaly applied to aviation and aircraft.

Google&#39;s base was <a href="/google/android-8.0/joystick/">previously</a>&nbsp;blue, and&nbsp;Microsoft <a href="/microsoft/windows-10/joystick/">previously featured</a> a more modern design.

Joystick

A package (parcel), as contains items ordered online. Depicted at various angles as a light-brown, cardboard box, with a shipping label and its top taped shut.

Commonly used for content concerning shipping, delivery, and moving as well as for boxes more generally.

Apple&rsquo;s design features an image of a <a href="/wine-glass/">wine glass</a>, indicating fragile contents, and &ldquo;this way up&rdquo; orientation arrows. It was&nbsp;<a href="/apple/ios-5.1/package/">briefly</a>&nbsp;identical to its <a href="/wrapped-gift/">🎁 Wrapped Gift</a>.

Package

A customs officer inspecting <a href="/left-luggage/" title="🛅 Left Luggage">luggage</a>. May be shown on signage at airports or other border crossings.

Not to be confused with the <a href="/passport-control/" title="4. Open Picasa, and click the “Import” tab in the top-right. 5. You should see a bunch of photos in this view, which are on the iPad. Scroll to the bottom of the list to see the photos you just saved. 6. Click on the first photo you want to keep. Then hold shift and click on the last photo. Baggage Claim

An icon representing a place to leave luggage. Most commonly found at Japanese train&nbsp;stations to signify&nbsp;coin lockers&nbsp;where bags can be stored for a daily fee.

This emoji displays a suitcase&nbsp;with&nbsp;a key above or below&nbsp;it, ususually in blue.
