Emoji Keyboard
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean was the first release to include a built-in keyboard (iWnn IME), and Android 4.4 KitKat was the first to include a color emoji keyboard.
Versions of Android prior to 4.3 require the use of a third-party keyboard app to insert emoji.

Instructions
Android 4.4 KitKat includes full color emoji support - and emoji built into the standard keyboard.
Note: the steps below are for the stock keyboard provided by Google for the Nexus line.
1. When the standard keyboard is showing, tap the smiley/emoji button in the bottom-right to enable the emoji keyboard
2. Tap any emoji to insert
3. To see more emoji characters, scroll horizontally, or tap a different category header across the top of the keyboard
4. To return to the regular keyboard, tap the keyboard button
5. That’s it! Enjoy your emoji.
